ATISH NASKAR

A jellyfish has no brain.

It has a nerve net — thousands of neurons, none of them in charge.

And yet it moves as one.

It's been doing this for over 500 million years.

Backend Engineer · Distributed Systems · Product Engineering

I build reliable backends and the products around them — and explore systems by building their core parts.

It started with puzzles.

Graphs. Dynamic programming. String algorithms. Small React apps. Browser automation.

Computer Science at Techno India University, 2019–2023.

I wasn't trying to use systems yet.
I was trying to understand why they worked.

The first time the systems were heavy.

Thoughtworks · Application Developer
Client: Piramal Capital & Housing Finance

I took a standalone reconciliation tool and turned it into a service operations teams could run on their own — retries, account-wise processing, and unmatched transactions carried into the next run.

When the heap ran out, I didn't add memory. I changed the shape of the work — chunked streams instead of everything at once.

Thoughtworks WHY Award

When a portfolio is worth crores, the system can't blink.

LAMF · Loan Against Mutual Funds
Client: Piramal Capital & Housing Finance

LAMF lets investors borrow against their mutual fund units instead of selling them. The people on the other end were high-net-worth customers — every one of them with holdings worth more than ₹5 crore.

I worked on the integrations with CAMS and KFintech — the registrars that keep India's mutual fund records — and on making that path resilient and scalable, so a slow or failing registrar call doesn't break a customer's loan journey.

Watch the two streams: when one drops, a retry pulse runs in and the flow recovers.

Not more data. Other people's data.

Visa · Software Engineer · Data & Privacy

Somewhere in a very large sky of databases is personal information. My work is helping find it, label it and govern it — carefully.

Spring Boot services across two data centres, 29+ kinds of data store, versioned policies with 100% scan reproducibility across three MVP releases, and mTLS, SSO and role-based access — because privacy tooling has to be the most trustworthy thing in the room.

Most engineers use Redis.
I wanted to know what it's doing when I'm not looking.

cache-server Go Experiment

A Redis-compatible server, wire-compatible with standard Redis clients: the RESP v2 protocol, strings, lists, sorted sets on a skip list, streams, TTL expiry, pub/sub, master–replica replication and MULTI/EXEC transactions. It began as a CodeCrafters challenge and grew from there.

gosh Go Experiment

An interactive Unix-style shell: parsing, pipelines, redirection, history, tab completion — and automated release packaging.

Suljhaoo · retail management for kirana shops

For shopkeepers whose internet comes and goes.

Offline-first sync for stock, expenses, suppliers and purchases; OTP sign-in and long-lived sessions; subscription entitlements; WhatsApp credit reminders through a queue; scheduler locking across nodes.

Payment SDKs

Exactly once, even when the webhook arrives twice.

Extracted subscription payments into reusable Spring Boot and Flutter/JS SDKs: multi-provider checkout with Cashfree and Razorpay, idempotent checkout, webhook de-duplication and versioned releases.

Uploads that survive real life.

Event-driven video pipeline: SQS messaging, upload cancellation, idempotent status updates, a MediaConvert/Lambda pipeline in Terraform, and cookie-based auth with CSRF protection.

HoverTap a skill. See the work that proves it.

Every skill here links to a real project.

  • Bounded memory. Change the shape of the work before adding hardware.
  • State survives failure. Retries, carry-forwards, idempotent callbacks.
  • Clean boundaries. Protocols, provider contracts, API edges.
  • Finish the job. Deploy scripts, release pipelines, admin consoles.
  • Respect the constraint. Bad networks, interrupted uploads, long sessions.

Nothing in a distributed system is in charge.
Everything still has to work.
